It was with deep sadness that we received the news that our Sovereign Lady, Queen Elizabeth has died.

This page contains details of the ways in which we in Northstowe, of all faiths and none, are uniting to mark the period of National Mourning.

Sunday's Civic Events of Commemoration

On Sunday morning, Northstowe is invited to gather on the Green, 24 hours before the State Funeral of her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
We will come together, from all faiths and none, because we share in common the deep sense of loss to our nation.

We will come together to remember
We will come together to give thanks
We will come together to comfort one another in our grief.

And, as our time concludes, we will look to the future: welcoming in the reign of our new King, Charles III, as we stand together and sing the national anthem.

Our service, which will last around 30 mins, draws on resources provided for this solemn occasion by the Church of England, where the Queen has been Supreme Governor, together with tributes from civic and faith leaders, each respectful of each other's beliefs.

______________

In the evening, Northstowe will join the National Minute's Silence. This will be a very short and entirely civic event, featuring the Silence and National Anthem.

Both events will take place on The Green. Please gather ten minutes before the start time.
Contact Revd Beth Cope (contact@northstowe.church) for more information.

Where to pay your respects in Northstowe

Should you wish to lay flowers during the period of mourning, we have worked with Northstowe Town Council to support this. Please use the hard standing at the Green (at entrance to Northstowe) where a portrait of HRH Queen Elizabeth II can be found.

The Council would kindly ask you to remove any form of plastic wrapping before laying flowers.

You may like to use these or similar words.

God of love,
We thank you for the life of The Queen,
for her service to our nation,
and for her faith in you.
Be close to all of us who mourn,
that we may we find comfort and hope in your love,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

About Us: The Civic Role of the Church of England

Revd Dr Beth Cope and Revd Stephen Dove are the Church of England priests for Northstowe.

The Church of England, as the established church, fulfils a civic responsibility. Its bishops and priests are responsible for performing state weddings and funerals, acts of remembrances, memorial services as well as grand occasions like the coronation.

Following her Majesty's example, we seek to hold spaces where those of all faiths and none can express their spirituality, learning from each other as we work together to build a better world.

Locally, our Parish Church building is All Saints' Longstanton. Anyone who lives in Northstowe or Longstanton is welcome to mark their life events with Christian ceremonies in our Parish Church, regardless of whether you normally attend church.
